Maria VMier Maria VMier is an artist and publisher, based in Munich. Her heterogeneous artistic practice spans various fields, formats, media and collaborative contexts. Her solo painting/sculpture practice is closely linked to the body, movement, desire, and has taken up more space recently. Maria VMier accompanies this work with writing, bridging the gap from herself to the outside world, from movement and drawing to language. The artistic self-location between history and present, politics and formalism, autonomy and collaboration is a central element for her. The places where she is located and the people with whom she is in exchange with play a crucial role in her work — acknowledging artistic practice as one that can not be autonomous.
Maria VMier is active in various collaborative/curatorial projects. Since 2013 she has been a publisher for artist books within Hammann von Mier Verlag (together with Stefanie Hammann) and since 2017 she has been running the project space Ruine München together with Jan Erbelding and Leo Heinik. Since 2019 she has also been part of the programming committee of FLORIDA Lothringer 13, an artist-run space of the City of Munich.
